Vrabel
The halftime show wasn't the only surprise offensive display at the Super Bowl. Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel, who spoke with Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg each morning during Super Bowl week, tells the duo about the moment before his touchdown, which became the first by a defensive player playing offense in the Super Bowl since William "The Refrigerator" Perry plowed over the Pats in New England's first Bowl trip. ... 'You will be the goat, forever'

Vrabel carries his son Tyler in the postgame ceremony.
On a terrifying thought as the pass heads his way:
"There's about a million things going through my mind. I can't make any of them out because they're all jumbled up. I think the last thought is (if you drop it), "You will be the goat, forever." It seems like it's in slow motion. You just re-live it. I've even thought about already enough today to say, 'What if you drop that pass? What if you're the guy who crosses it up and drops that damn thing?'"

Two-way guy
Encouraging Brady to throw:
"We can only activate two tight ends sometimes. I win that third tight-end job by default. -- I think Tom doesn't throw to me on purpose in practice just because I'm the option, I'm the guy that's usually wide-open. He usually tries to make the hard throw in practice. I told him that (he should) wait till it's called in a game, 'You have to come to me, you have to come to me' and he did. And we were able to pick the guys off just like the play calls for. They ran into each other, the ends covering the two tight ends on the line. Daniel (Graham) did a good job running his route, I ran my route underneath him, and they ran into each other, and I was able to catch it."

You're running at our side?
On some early motivation in the game
"Richard Seymour and I talked about the first play of the game. They came out and tried our side the first play of the game. I think they gained a yard. Richard and I were a little shocked that they chose our side. That was an insult to us, on the first play of the Super Bowl to try us on the right side. We took that as a challenge for the rest of the game.

Tyler Vrabel in the spotlight
On bringing his son Tyler up on the podium
"It was special for me. It was selfish for me. (Tyler) knew he was at the Super Bowl. Dad wanted to show off his son. Son's not too proud of dad because he doesn't know any better. It was an awesome feeling to have Tyler up there. To have Jim Nantz call him by his name was pretty cool."

The week leading up to the game

In a huge regular season win, Mike Vrabel got a grip on Edgerrin James.
Vrabel's journey to Houston began with his two young children eyeing him warily as he packed his suitcase, followed by protests of "don't go."

He got to Houston on Monday. Then he met Golic and Greenberg on Tuesday. He survived that. And when not practicing or engaged in media interviews, he proceeded to berate his golf ball on a chilly Houston course. On the fourth day of the daily Super Bowl diary, Big 10 resentment issues surfaced when Northwestern grad Greenberg explained a common term a little too well to Ohio State grad Vrabel.
  • Friday: Not excited about prediction of Pats' victory
  • Thursday: "Did you feel the need to define the term 'layperson?'''
  • Wednesday: "I was yelling at my golf ball for four hours yesterday"
  • Jan. 27: You shouldn't confuse me with Bruschi
  • Jan. 26: Children not happy dad is leaving
  • Jan. 20: Breaking down a "mugging" of the Colts
  • Jan. 15: Goal is confusing the deceptive Peyton Manning
